So this is old new by now. Thought I published it, but apparently not.
Some FA news via the Caps website:
Quite a few players were set to become either RFAs or UFAs on July 1. Restricted free agents are able to negotiate with other teams and can decide whether they want to sign elsewhere or stay with the Capitals, should the Caps match the offer of that other team. If the RFA is extended a qualifying offer, then if he chooses to sign with a different club, that team has to give the Caps compensation for the player. So far, eight of those RFAs have been extended QO’s. Four others did not.
-C Chris Bourque
-RW Eric Fehr (Arbitration rights)
-C Boyd Gordon (Arbitration rights)
-D Shaone Morrisonn (Arbitration rights)
-D Milan Jurcina (Arbitration rights)
-C Steve Pinizzotto (Arbitration rights)
-D Jeff Schultz
-C Kyle Wilson (Arbitration rights)
Bourque, Pinizzotto, and Wilson spent their year with the Calder Cup winning Hershey Bears, while the rest of the guys were with the Caps. Nearly everyone expects ShaMo to elect for arbitration, so the consensus is that he’ll be a goner come next season.
The four players that were not extended QO’s were:
-C Andrew Joudrey
-G Daren Machesney
-C Travis Morin
-D Sasha Pokulok
Today, they become UFAs but can still resign the with the Caps.
