With all of the Blackhawks’ problems, there’s some not so good news.
The NHLPA has filed a grievance for the mishandling of qualifying offers, meaning that whatever players are still unsigned will become free agents.
Via Twitter, five players agreed to terms with the Hawks. So Kris Versteeg and Cam Barker could become free game for the other 29 teams in the League.
I mean, it’s not like anyone would have interest in Versteeg. He’s just a kid who scored 22 goals and 53 points and was a Calder Trophy nominee. I don’t know anything about Cam Barker, but apparently, his asking price could be very high. Damn that Marian Hossa, taking up all that cap space. But I guess people would rather have Hossa than Barker and Versteeg?
So I’m sorry to Blackhawks fans in advance if you have to say goodbye to these guys. Or maybe not if the things end well.
UPDATE: From Twitter (again), Cam Barker’s not going anywhere. Hawks locked him up for three years.
