So long to a great one

The NHLPA announced today that ex-Caps goalie Olaf Kolzig, better known as Olie the Goalie, has retired.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t around hockey during the Kolzig era, but after reading about him and watching highlights of him, you can tell he was a hell of a player and person. His career in Washington didn’t end well, but Caps fans will always see him as a Cap.

Ted Leonsis said, “Olie was the face of the Capitals franchise for years, on the ice, in the locker room and around Washington, D.C. He was a great Capital and the organization and our fans will always have fond memories of ‘Olie the Goalie.’ We wish him and his wonderful family all the best in his retirement.” (via @washcaps)
