I’m a couple days late with this, but I don’t really care. I, unlike a few of my fellow bloggers ( yeah, you two [: ), will be rooting for my country from a distance this February. In case you haven’t seen the Men’s Hockey roster yet, here it is:
-Ryan Miller (Buffalo Sabres)
-Tim Thomas (Boston Bruins)
-Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles Kings)
-Erik Johnson (St. Louis Blues)
-Jack Johnson (Los Angeles Kings)
-Mike Komisarek (Toronto Maple Leafs)
-Paul Martin (New Jersey Devils)
-Brooks Orpik (Pittsburgh Penguins)
-Brian Rafalski (Detroit Red Wings)
-Ryan Suter (Nashville Predators)
-David Backes (St. Louis Blues)
-Dustin Brown (Los Angeles Kings)
-Ryan Callahan (New York Rangers)
-Chris Drury (New York Rangers)
-Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks)
-Ryan Kesler (Vancouver Canucks)
-Phil Kessel (Toronto Maple Leafs)
-Jamie Langenbrunner (New Jersey Devils)
-Ryan Malone (Tampa Bay Lightning)
-Zach Parise (New Jersey Devils)
-Joe Pavelski (San Jose Sharks)
-Bobby Ryan (Anaheim Ducks)
-Paul Stastny (Colorado Avalanche)
- Craig Custance from the Sporting News talks about the Pluses and Minuses of the team and the snubs.
- And if you didn’t catch it, Craig also talked with forward Jordan Schroeder about the World Junior Championship.
Enough about the silly roster. Let’s get to more important things: the presentation of it! (;
If you didn’t watch the Winter Classic at Fenway and didn’t see the USA Olympic roster announcement, it was kind of awesome.
The 23-man roster was presented by 23 little youth hockey players. Each had the jersey of a player who was chosen, and as the name was read, the kid turned around to show the back of the jersey to the cameraman. It was highlighted by Tim Thomas being announced last and walking back out of the dugout wearing his USA jersey. It was a lot quicker and obviously cuter than Canada’s presentation (which someone compared to Ryan Seacrest announcing who’s in on American Idol). But Canada’s a favorite to win, so at least we have the presentation win. Yay? (Oh, and did anyone else notice the announcer say “from Pittsburgh, Philadelphia” for Ryan Malone? I could’ve sworn I did.)
And finally, I’m conflicted. I want to get a blue USA jersey, but I don’t know whose name I want on the back. I’ve narrowed it down to Callahan, Kane, Kesler, Parise, Ryan, Stastny, or Suter. Such a hard decision, right? Yeah.
